Taylor: Repeat child sex offenders should get death penalty
Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor on Tuesday called for the death penalty for people who commit repeat sex crimes against children in Georgia.
Five other states already have death penalty statutes for repeat child sex offenders, according to the Taylor campaign. Taylor said Georgia should become the 6th.
"There are some crimes that rise to the level that the death penalty is the appropriate punishment," Taylor said.
Taylor, the Democratic nominee for governor, made the announcement at a candidates forum hosted by State Farm Insurance Co. He appeared after Republican Gov. Sonny Perdue.
Perdue announced his own child sex crime crackdown on Monday. He proposed hiring more child sex crime investigators.
