Death penalty notice filed in daughter's death
By Associated Press
HONOLULU (AP) _ Federal prosecutors in Honolulu filed notice Friday that they intend to seek the death penalty against a soldier if he is convicted of first-degree murder.
Schofield Barracks Specialist Naeem Williams was indicted in February for the July 2005 death of his five-year-old daughter, Talia.
Her stepmother, Delilah Williams, was also charged in the case, but hasn't been indicted.
U-S Attorney Edward Kubo Junior says the decision to seek the death penalty was made by Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.
Talia was taken by ambulance from the family's residence at Wheeler Army Airfield to Wahiawa General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
An autopsy revealed Talia died from ``inflicted head trauma due to battered child syndrome.''
