Death penalty for student's killer
FARGO, N.D. The sex offender who murdered a college student will die for the crime. A federal jury in North Dakota is sentencing Alfonso Rodriguez Junior to death.
Dru Sjodin (shuh-DEEN') was a 22-year-old student at the University of North Dakota when she vanished in 2003 from a mall parking lot. Almost five months later, her body was found in a ravine in Minnesota. Investigators say she'd been stabbed, beaten and raped.
Rodriguez was convicted last month of kidnapping resulting in death. The same jurors returned this week to decide on his punishment in North Dakota's first death penalty case in almost 100 years.
