Tarigami seeks Prez intervention on Afzal's death penalty
New Delhi, Sept 27: Opposing the death penalty awarded to Jaish-e-Mohammad militant Mohd Afzal responsible for the attack on Parliament, a senior CPI(M) leader has sought the intervention of the President in the matter.
"Though there are legal implications, in today's civilised world, death penalty is not acceptable, more so when the peace process in Kashmir is going on", CPI(M) leader in Jammu and Kashmir, Mohd Yusuf Tarigami, said here.
He said "We strongly feel that the President must intervene to stop the death sentence from being carried out."
More than 5 years after the terror attack on Parliament, a Delhi Court had yesterday ordered that Afzal, the main plotter it sentenced to death, be hanged on October 20.
