Court finalizes death sentence for Kobe man
The death sentence handed down by the Kobe District Court to a 66-year-old man who killed and robbed his cousin and his cousin's wife in July 2004 has been finalized, sources said Thursday.
Defense lawyers for Muneteru Yamamoto had appealed the decision, but Yamamoto himself withdrew the appeal. The court decision was finalized on April 4, the sources said.
The court handed down the death sentence only 2 months after Yamamoto's 1st trial. The ruling was delivered in an unusually speedy manner since a new court procedural system, which allows the point at issue to be presented between hearings, was applied.
